Hi ladies,
Can we have one of those conversations we usually only have with our closest girlfriends?
Maybe you remember a time when desire felt easy.
And now?
You’re exhausted.
Your brain won’t shut off.
Your hormones feel different.
You’re juggling work, family, relationships, appointments, laundry, groceries, responsibilities…
and someone wants to know why you’re not feeling sexy.
Meanwhile, you’re thinking:
We hear you.
And here’s the thing:
Low libido in women is often much more complicated than simply having “low hormones.”
Your body is constantly asking:
Am I safe?
Do I have enough energy?
Do I have enough resources?
Can I relax?
If the answer keeps coming back as “not really,” desire can move pretty far down the priority list.
This can happen during:
Perimenopause.
Menopause.
Postpartum changes.
Periods of chronic stress.
Poor sleep.
Hormonal shifts.
Thyroid changes.
Blood sugar problems.
Inflammation.
Gut issues.
Vaginal discomfort or dryness.
Certain medications.
Or simply seasons of life when your body and brain have had enough.
And then there’s your nervous system.
You spend all day thinking, planning, doing, managing, worrying, organizing, remembering…
basically living from the neck up.
Then at 10:30 at night, you’re supposed to magically drop into your body and feel sensual?
This is why, in functional medicine, we don’t want to look at libido in isolation.
We may look at:
Because sometimes libido isn’t the first thing that went wrong.
Sometimes it is simply the thing that finally made you notice that something feels off.
One of my favorite ways to say it is:
And no, the goal is not to turn every woman into someone who wants sex every night.
The goal is to help you feel like you again.
More energy.
More comfort in your body.
Better sleep.
Better hormone balance.
More connection.
More confidence.
More vitality.
And more capacity for pleasure—whatever that looks like for you.
If you’ve been thinking, “I just don’t feel like myself anymore,” let’s talk about why.
With gratitude,
